In jazz and related musical styles, the term swing is used to describe the sense of propulsive rhythmic "feel" or "groove" created by the musical interaction between the performers, especially when the music creates a "visceral response" such as feet-tapping or head-nodding.
I'm gonna take this a step further.
What's a story that swings?
It's a little jig - a reading between the lines - a narrative that brings a different perspective to light. It's storytelling at its most basic sense, but with the smarts of the Tin Man and the heart of a Lion.
I ask myself that everyday.
I am a collection of my experiences, good and bad.
I like my art visceral and experiential. I like to walk around, through, and get up close to art. I also love graffiti, propaganda art, and steampunk design. I don't know if my love of urban art comes from the movies that influenced me, but I'd guess that it's likely.
I am fascinated by infectious disease. Some of my favorite books are about cholera, the 1918 flu pandemic, and ebola. That's what I read in my spare time.
I'm a video store geek. Even before I worked in one, I was a walking IMDb and was playing the Kevin Bacon game well before it was fashionable. I'm also a physical media champ, sponsoring Blade Runner for all eternity at Scarecrow Video!
I studied pastry. And Shakespeare. And architecture for about a minute.
I collect canopies. Or backlit trees, if you prefer. You wanna see some snaps?
I keep bees. They're fascinating, and I could talk about them all day long. Those are my bees in that video to the right dancing on a cardoon flower.
I don't live to work, but I work really hard. Want to know more about my work style? Check out the resume page or find me on LinkedIn.
